ReplyDeleteLou Diamond Phillips is not Native American. He has publicly stated in several interviews that while he is often confused as being Latino or Native American, he is in fact Filipino and proud of it.

While he was ceremoniously honored as an adopted son by a member of the Comanche Nation, the Comanche Nation themselves refused to adopt him into their tribe. For years Depp claimed Indian heritage, as many actors and singers do. It's popular with celebrities to claim native ancestry when they in fact have none. This was proven in Depp's case by the Indian Country Media Network and Ancestry. com. Depp can, however, now claim that he is African American.
Despite the wonderfully honest Lou Diamond Phillips and the wannabe Indian Depp's out there, there are many more real Natives that can easily take their place. Rodney A. Grant, Martin Sensmeier, Derek Hinkey and David Midthunder easily come to mind.
