Indie punk, folk icon Ani DiFranco. I heart her big time. She's just a great artist, songwriter, poet, musician. I remember discovering her music several years back, liking her conscious lyrics, her earthy vibe. I was surprised she wasn't more well known given her talent but then I found out that she didn't want her music released through giant, established labels. She wanted control and given the sort of artist she is, that made perfect sense. Ani's a bit of a trail blazer and she released music through her own label Righteous Babe Records.
