Book Munch:The Virgin Suicides

The Virgin Suicides by Jeffrey Eugenides is one of my favourite books. Follow the tragic tale of teenage sisters in 50's surburban America. The girls lead an incredibly sheltered life living with their fanatically religious mother and uptight father but they want to experience the world outside in all it's glory;love, parties and rebellion. And when they do, tragedy descends on the family as one by one the girls commit suicide. Told through the eyes of the boys in love with them, who keep watch and hold their memories dear, the book is haunting, lyrical and beautifully written. The film starring Kirsten Dunst and directed by Sofia Coppola is a great adaptation but the book is amazing.
