Double Indemnity is a 1940 noir flick directed by Billy Wilder and starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck. The plot revolves around an insurance rep who allows himself to be led into a murder and insurance fraud scheme by the beautiful wife of one of his clients. It is classic, cracking stuff. It moves along at a great pace and the dialogue is brilliant. Barbara Stanwyck is absolutely sublime in this, has to be her best performance ever. She is right up there in terms of the best of femme fatale portrayals. The movie is full of great lines and one of my favourite is:
How could I have known that muder can sometimes smell like honeysuckle? Superb.
