What the Hell? James Franco & Harmony Korine...
So this picture of James Franco being grinded on by a bunch of naked black women from his new film Rebel by indie outlaw Harmony Korine is doing the rounds on the web. I like James Franco and some of Korrine's work. Loved Mister Lonely, hated Act Da Fool. He's a film maker that polarizes audiences and likes to push the envelope. But just what the hell is going on? Naked black women as Franco's cultural accessories and his apathetic stance...Interesting. The film also has an actual fight between LA street gangs and the members were allowed to use real weapons and hurt each other. Franco tweeted videos of the project which had a Notorious BIG soundtrack and men including Franco in Tupac t shirts on bikes in an empty car park. The videos and pics were deleted but a few people saved this one. James Franco has been everywhere lately, in a way, I like that he's not taking the typical movie star career route and is exploring and experimenting. He's over exposed though and people are suggesting it's part of Korine's plan to hurt him with this move. All will be revealed I guess, but to be honest, I'm kind of sick of certain aspects of black culture being exploited and fetishized. The film premieres this year at the Venice Biennale.
