Album Covers Corner:Ani DiFranco Which Side Are You On?

Feminist folk icon Ani DiFranco released a new album earlier this year through her label Righteous Babe Records. Ani's known for her activism and political messages. She has a reputation that precedes her. However, critics have said this new album has shed that temporarily and that here, she seems to be addressing the disenfranchised, the homeless, people left impoverished with no support. It's supposed to be more subdued and reflective but as ever, I'm expecting the kind of honest, soul baring storytelling she's known for.

Ill Still

The Craft. Neve Campbell, Rachel True, Fairuza Bulk and Robin Tunney get in way over their heads dabbling in witchcraft in this deliciously dark teen horror flick.

Spotlight:Rachel True

Remember actress Rachel True from The Craft? When I first saw her I thought she was so so pretty and had this interesting, bohemian aura about her. She was kinda kooky but still accessible enough to get juicy roles. Sadly, because of Hollywood's prejudiced attitude towards actresses of colour, she was never really going to get a fair shot at superstardom despite having the whole package. I think she did a few independent movies. Anyway,at the time, along with Neve Campbell, Rachel was on my list of hot women I would have done the horizontal dance with were I that way inclined. She's done lots of film and tv work and her credits include The Craft, Nowhere, Half & Half, Half Baked, A Girl's Guide To Sex, The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, Dawson's Creek and many others.

Crushed:Ani DiFranco

Indie punk, folk icon Ani DiFranco. I heart her big time. She's just a great artist, songwriter, poet, musician. I remember discovering her music several years back, liking her conscious lyrics, her earthy vibe. I was surprised she wasn't more well known given her talent but then I found out that she didn't want her music released through giant, established labels. She wanted control and given the sort of artist she is, that made perfect sense. Ani's a bit of a trail blazer and she released music through her own label Righteous Babe Records. I still never get tired of her tracks Both Hands, 32 Different Flavours and Untouchable Face. Her most recent album is Which Side Are You On?

XY Chromosome Sundae:Kit Harington

British hottie Kit Harington from Game of Thrones. He plays Jon Snow and like lots of ladies out there, I like his smouldering dark looks. Particularly those dark dark eyes lol. Kit's a talented guy and I think there'll be big things in store for him in the future. He has a Heath Ledger vibe about him. Sigh. Still miss the gorgeous Heath Ledger. R.I.P. Anyway, I digress. Kit looks great scruffy. He starred in the stage production of War Horse before landing his role on the show. Next up, he plays opposite Vera Farmiga in psychological thriller Greenland Time. I'm guessing he's probably one of the most popular characters in Game of Thrones and if you watch it, it's easy to see why. His complex, torn black sheep portrayal is pretty delectable.

Slice:Richard Madden and Kit Harington

Richard Madden and Kit Harington promoting Game of Thrones in Brazil. Game of Thrones is the best thing on television. Im obsessed with the show and can't wait for the new series to start. The whole cast is amazing and as if the show isn't compelling enough, it also has some great eye candy in the form of these two fine dudes. I need twenty fingers to count how many reasons there are for watching this show.

Slice:Audra McDonald

The fantastic Audra McDonald has won her fifth Tony Award for best actress in a musical portraying Bess in Porgy & Bess. What a brilliant achievement, it's basically the eqivalent of a Hollywood actress winning five oscars. She's one of only three women ever to win this many Tonys and the first woman of colour. I hope it translates into better movie roles for her, she more than deserves it. I know Porgy & Bess has a London run in July and I can't wait to see it because it sounds superb.
